A Canada relocation Coaching Success

Marc Yvan Wabo Fatso shared his experience as an automation specialist in the brewery industry in our blog. He’s now moved to Canada to work and has written about his experience so far in a new country and shared his coaching success story with The Field Engineer community.
We felt we should share his story here too.

Moving to Canada and starting a new job with a new company
‘This article is to share my experience as a new immigrant in Canada and the impact of our community in my integration process. Perhaps, my coaching success story could be helpful for some of you.
I am Marc Wabo, from Cameroon and I am a mechatronic master’s engineering graduate. I worked for several years as an automation specialist in the brewery industry: three years at Boissons du Cameroun and two years at Brasserie BBLOME in Togo.
During those last years, I was looking for new challenges to get out of my comfort zone, to improve my professional skills and at the same time to grow my intercultural experience. So, I decided to begin the process and start the Canadian immigration programme. Obviously, they were a lot of questions I asked myself like:
• What is the best way to get my first Canadian professional experience?
• Do I need to take two more years for a master’s degree course?
• Do I apply only for roles in my field of experience?
So, I talked about this with Caroline Gregory (Community Manager of The Field Engineer community) and she recommended me to get in touch with Guy Eid. Today, I think it was the right decision and the right recommendation.
Before talking with Guy, I had tried by myself to apply for automation specialist roles on LinkedIn, Indeed, and other sites. I applied for around fifty jobs, but I never received any kind of interview. Then, I decided to change the way I was doing things and texted Guy for more advice. After that we had a long conversation to figure out:
• Who I am
• What I was looking for
• What is my plan
Guy shared with me his own experience as a new immigrant which helped me to be more informed about an interesting and useful strategy. As well, he helped me to update my Resume (CV) so that it would be more selectable by the ATS software used by recruiters and human resources departments to check the best match between thousands of resumes and the job description during the hiring process. With those new pieces of advice, I applied to new job adverts. It was different from the last time, and I started to receive mails and calls for interviews. Today, I am a Technical Support Specialist for AVEVA’s SCADA software.
Through, this short article, I would like to thank, Caroline for our community which has given me the opportunity to have an incredible mentor like Guy Eid. I know that the immigrant adventure is not easy but now I am confident to call Guy for the right advice to succeed in my integration process.
