Victor Mensah, Field Service & Applications Engineer – EMEA, Thermo Fisher Scientific

Victor Mensah has a BSc in Geomatic Engineering, an MPhil in Geophysics and a Masters in Oil and Gas Engineering. As well, he is currently undertaking a PhD in Environmental Research, Modelling and Risk Assessment with specialisation in Computational Geophysics at ETSI Minas y Energía-UPM in Madrid. Victor works for Thermo Fisher Scientific and is based in the United States.

My three reasons for being an FAE.

  1. The opportunity to interact with people from different nationalities, backgrounds, and cultures. This teaches me how people think and strengthens my confidence and interpersonal relationships.
  2. The travel experience. I get to visit different countries, see different beautiful places, and experience the world.
  3. The opportunity I have to solve issues for my customers and the confidence that I get to build with them. For me it’s an opportunity to showcase what I have…put smiles on the faces of my customers and make my company proud.

Gordon Wilkinson has a PhD in Ultrasonic Instrumentation and worked at Keele University before moving to work in customer facing roles both applications and sales. He works for Xperi Corporation and helps customers choose and implement audio technology in their consumer devices and cars.

My three reasons for being an FAE.

  1. Travel – I like to get out of the office.
  2. Variety – working on lots of different projects rather than slogging away on one.
  3. Applications – getting to see what customers do with our products and being a part of the process further up the food chain.
    To summarise, I realise these all really boil down to “variety”.

John James, Field Applications Engineer, Anritsu

John James studied Electrical Engineering and worked as a hardware engineer, software engineer, technical marketing engineer and then moved into field applications. He works for Anritsu and is based in North Carolina in the United States.

My three reasons for being an FAE now.

  1. I enjoy working in a highly technical environment that changes from customer to customer.
  2. I like the autonomy of working remotely and travelling to customer sites when I’m needed.
  3. I really enjoy the technology that I chose but it does not limit my ability to expand my expertise.

Berk Demirağ has a degree in Electronics Engineering and Telecommunications. He has worked in the electronics, communications, medical and maritime industries. Berk worked for Cetinkaya Shipping & Transport Ltd . He is based in Ankara in Turkey.

My three reasons for being an FAE.

  1. To feel I am doing important work.
  2. To feel independent and to be able to go to the toilet without permission.
  3. To drink tea or coffee whenever I want to.

In summary, my main reason is ’to feel free.’

My three reasons for being an FAE.

  1. Getting to Travel and meet customers is fulfilling.
  2. Taking new requirements/Problem Statement and working with Engineering to solve customer problems and provide solutions.
  3. Having a front row seat to technology advancing bit by bit is amazing… Advancement in tech is in small pieces and rarely big leaps.
