We are receiving a lot of feedback from engineers and managers that recruitment is challenging, As well we are seeing a lot of people unable to gain an entry level role as a field engineer.

Do you have any thoughts or strategies on this?

At a recent event run by the TEAM network – we had a panel who are experts in dealing with early careers candidates. It seems the proliferation of smartphones means they prefer to consume short videos / content on jobs, are interested in the “journey” or career path as well as understanding what a typical day looks like. The WIIFM if you will.

Reposted job specs pretending to be job adverts won’t cut it anymore, EVP/company culture etc are big differentiators.

Some candidates who have started apprenticeships may only complete half or 2/3 of it. There is an untapped resource pool of these candidates out there.

Employers need to make links with their local primary, secondary and FE level schools/colleges to attract those candidates/ communicate the salaries on offer in careers that may not have been considered by them.
