My one year old Samsung washing machine’s, seal retaining clamp has come off. I’m not sure why it came off, or if the door seal is damaged as well.

As it’s under a 5 year warranty we contacted Samsung.

They say the part is a consumable and is not covered under warranty. And have suggested to my wife that we replace it ourselves.

My problem with this advice is twofold,

    i. the part itself is not broken, it just came off. I don’t know why it came off.

ii. Their warranty document states that

“..warranty service does not include repair of failures caused by: • Modification or attachments • Accidents or misuse (to include without limitation failure to following instructions in the user manual) • Unsuitable physical or operating environment • Third party products eg consumables • Maintenance by anyone other than Samsung or a Samsung Authorised Service provider • Operation of a product beyond the limit of its duty cycle • Products, components, parts, material, software, or interfaces not furnished by Samsung”

So I am not supposed to fix it myself, because it will invalidate the product’s warranty.

The part itself is not broken so I don’t need a replacement.

It needs a service engineer to come out and diagnose the problem.

What would anyone in the community suggest I do?

If it’s on warranty, just contact any Samsung Authorised Service provider. If something come off that’s not supposed to come off, it’s a great possibility that is a project error, this type of thing has to be in warranty.

I avoid to fix any stuff that in warranty, even it’s a simple fix, to avoid unnecessary headache. Because once you fix something and get some other problem even that you not get close of that part, the warranty will not cover.

There is another thing, if the price is low enough for you, you can simple ignore the warranty and fix yourself, i think the question is, do you care about the warranty? Hope this helps

    Thanks Luigi,

    I agree with you.

If a retaining clip comes off then this is a design/manufacturing issue.

So I think Samsung should be concerned about it, and proactive in asking for more information.

We are currently pursuing this through the retailer we bought it from.

    Thanks,

    Tim
